As we all know, our mothers always taught us not to talk to strangers… So what happens to us when we do? If you think about it, apart from your family, everyone is a stranger until that first interaction. For us, where that interaction happens makes all the difference in how we perceive them and how they relate to us. “You met him on the street?!” “Oh we met in class” or “we met at a bar”… every way you describe someone and your first interaction is calculated when you and others perceive that relationship…it’s just our instinct to analyze these things.
For me, I feel. I think that’s the one thing you can be sure of when you’re interacting with someone. Certain people you meet, will make you feel energized, others may have a calming affect on you and some may even drive you crazy, it all depends.
The first time I met my ex boyfriend, was on the street and we just started dancing together! I remember feeling so happy and free just looking at him and everything in the background just disappeared. Another time while I was travelling, I had an instant connection w someone on the subway! We chatted and laughed the whole ride and then that was it! It’s amazing who you attract if you are open to it.
Recently, I met my newest friend Dave in the village in NYC. We were both at a little coffee shop called Bonsignor and just started chatting! We ended up spending a couple hours together talking and walking around meeting other people. The last one we interacted with was a guy named Randy. Dave and I talked to Randy for about 30 mins and gave him a baguette we had left over from the cafe. We talked about life, music and most importantly, his art of building guitars. It was great meeting someone who still has a craft like this and love for music. One of the game changers with Randy is that he’s homeless. And since he loves to play music, he built himself a guitar. Dave and I are going to be starting something with Randy, stay tuned….no pun intended!
The Big Apple is just too tempting ! I’m here again…next time will hopefully be permanent, this time it’s to visit friends and possible employers…fingers crossed!
as usual, the moment the plane touched the ground, I was in go mode! Landing at 730 and dinner reservations at Gotham ( http://gothambarandgrill.com/ ) were for 9. . It was perfect and even enough time to drop my luggage off at my cousins house first . . or so I thought. I decided to be economical and take the shuttle….which unfortunately ended up ruining my perfect timing! It took about half an hour to get out of the airport because of all the other pickups, and then there was traffic ! the nerve. I texted my friends to let them know I would be tardy, and arrive around 9:15….and then again to say just eat , I’ll get there when I do….which ended up being at 9:50…ten minutes before the kitchen closes! As they are gentlemen, they awaited my arrival and we dined together. It was a delectable meal with fine company.
After that, we proceeded to a pool hall! maintaining the balance as always. We played in pairs…Chris and I won every game. … obviously that statement is false! but we did come pretty close!! it was a great night to start off the trip.
my favourite olives !
cozze ( mussels ) and polpo ( octopus )
so … as you can maybe tell…I’m in the land of pasta..things ( like my blogging ) move a little slower here..just the way life does
I am in a town called Monopoli, where my fathers side of the family is from. it’s a beautiful town by the sea with white buildings lining the coastline in the old port, or as they say “porta vecchia”. Monopoli is in the region of Puglia..a more southern part of Italy, and here is where you eat the best. The food is simple and pure…a general meal would consist of the first plate being orecchiette pasta with fresh tomato sauce and cacciaricotta cheese ( which is bright white and salty ) followed by fresh fish or octopus ( either grilled, fried mm or boiled and made into a salad) from the sea or veal…on the table you’ll always find buffalo mozzarella ( the real kind ), giant green olives..bocconcini…cucumbers..teralle …its hard not to fill up on these before the first plate! …Only thinking about it makes me hungry ! After all the food, the fruit is put on the table , and of course only fruit that is in season …peaches..figs ( my fave ) ..pears…and if you come at the end of August you’ll be in time for one of my absolute favourites, cactus pears. .. next “i dolci” or sweets ..usually cookies ( biscotti ) w coffee…and after, limoncello or amaro per “l’aiuta la digestione”. and thennnnn if this was dinner (which would have started around 9) you go to the main square called the “borgo” and walk around…anddddd probably get a gelato to accompany you..also days are spent at the beach… la dolce vita ! flying extraordinarily, xxE!
